Legendary West Indian batsman, Brian Lara was robbed of huge sums of money and various other invaluable items. The combined value of all the items was $1 million and the heist occurred in his palace at Trinidad and Tobago.
The items which were robbed were in a safe at Lara’s palace and the whole safe has been robbed. Apart from the money, the West Indian batsman also lost the honorary ‘Order of Australia’ which had been given to him by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd last year. There were also 40 VVIP passes that were a part of the loot for Beyonce Knowles’ concert which was to be held in Trinidad and Tobago in Port-of-Spain. Each of these passes cost $1600.
Rather shockingly, the robbery happened with Lara still in the house. According to the former batsman, he was in the house and dozed off while watching television at 8 pm. When he woke up at 2 am in the night, he found that the safe had been missing.
Six people have also been arrested for this theft from his Lady Chancellor mansion. The police believe that it is an inside job for the simple reason that the robbers knew where they needed to go. “It has to be people who knew exactly where to go, and they knew what they were looking for… They timed him very well before making their move,” a policeman said.
According to Lara, the last time he saw the safe was at 4pm earlier that day. After that he had gone out, and came back at 7pm. He then slept away while watching the TV.
This is not the first time that thieves have broken into Lara’s house.
