The Test series is fast approaching the mid-point of the series, and the Indians look to have been beaten in almost all the sessions of the games so far. The first Test match was far too easily won by Sri Lanka, despite 120 overs being lost due to rain, whereas the second Test match looks to be going only one way – away from India.

So, what can the Indian side do from here to make a comeback into the series?

Win Toss?

That is the golden rule in Sri Lanka. You lose the toss, and you can easily kiss the chances of winning the game a good-bye. MS Dhoni has lost both the tosses, and if the law of averages are to be believed the time is right for him to win the toss in the third Test match.

Bowling Changes:

It was a surprise that despite giving enough indication about the manner in which the Indian bowlers turned up, the captain and the coach of the side decided not to make any changes to the bowling department. The time is right to bring about those changes and ensure that the bowlers in the wings; the likes of Amit Mishra and Munaf Patel also get a chance. In fact, they should have been around for this game as well – or at least Mishra should have been – but the captain has shown to have his own mindset.

Speaking of bowling changes, it could also do well for the Indians to get in a fifth bowler. The four-bowler strategy may work where the pitches are conducive for the bowlers, but on the likes of SSC in Colombo, it may not be such a bad option to try and get a fifth one in.

More intent in batting:

Gautam Gambhir may have got out early, and Virender Sehwag bats like no-one else, but the middle-order needs to take a cue from Sri Lanka’s team and bat with much more positive intent than before. Rahul Dravid has often made it difficult for himself and his team by going on and on without getting the runs, and it will do him good if he is able to score face 150 balls and score at least 80 in those. Time for the rest of the middle-order to get the centuries as well.
