The Mumbai Indians have begun this edition of the tournament rather well as they notched up two wins in as many games. In their first game, they scored a 200-plus total, and despite a blitzkrieg ton from Yusuf Pathan, emerged winners. The other game saw them crush Delhi after getting to a near 220, winning by 98 runs.

India will play Sri Lanka in the second test match at the Green Park in Kanpur after a dull and a rather dreary draw at the Motera in Ahmedabad. The Green Park in Kanpur is one of the older venues in India, and had hosted its first test match in 1952.

Even as India has lost the home ODI series to Australia, the Sri Lankans are sharpening their claws for the more than a month long tour of India. Sri Lanka will play two T20Is, five ODIs and three test matches on the tour, in what will be their first complete tour after quite a while.

The Group B of the Champions Trophy is wide open at the end of the first three games in it. The first game had seen the Sri Lankans stun the hosts, South Africa. In the second match, the South Africans made a comeback and beat New Zealand to make it one win out of two. Finally, favourites Sri Lanka was then shocked by England, a side which had only recently lost six games against Australia.

Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting, Australia’s cricket captain, has announced his retirement from twenty overs format of cricket and has said that he will concentrate on only the other two formats of the game, the ODIs and the test matches. This comes in the wake of the consistently grinding schedule that the sides have to endure in the current day and age, and a growing trend of players choosing one or the other forma over the other. Current vice-captain Michael Clarke will take over the leadership of the T20I Aussie side, whereas Ponting would continue captaining in the test matches and the ODIs. An announcement to that regard will soon be made.

Dale Willem Steyn

It has been revealed that Dale Steyn of South Africa had failed a drug test during this season’s Indian Premier League. Steyn played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in both, this season and the last one, and played only in three games, in a much improved showing by the Vijay Mallya-owned franchise.
