Simons was earlier the bowling consultant of the Indian cricket team during the series against South Africa. Simons will replace David Saker, who was earlier the bowing consultant for the Daredevils team, under the coaching of David Shippherd.

Sehwag Continues Battle Against Bangladesh

by Vivek Gite on January 22, 2010 · 0 comments

Virender Sehwag continued to aim barbs at his opposition during the press conference after India had beaten Bangladesh rather comfortably in the first Test match at Chittagong. He again said that the opposition was not good enough to pick up 20 wickets.

In the end, it turned out to be an easier win than expected for the Indians. Chasing 240 in a series which has already seen a near-chase for a total of 400 plus and a successful one for 301, was never expected to be too difficult, but with the pitch at the Barbati Stadium holding up the way it was, it could have got tricky. As it turned out, India won by seven wickets and with more than seven overs to spare.

Good news for all the Indian fans! Team India has gone on the top of the test match rankings by beating the Sri Lankans rather easily in the third and the final test match at Mumbai. In the process they have also managed to win the series 2-0.

Virender Sehwag almost entered the record books when he fell seven runs short of scoring his third triple century in the history of test match cricket. No player has ever done this so far in test match cricket and Sehwag came within seven runs of doing that before the maestro Muthiah Muralitharan lulled him into playing a shot too early and giving him a return catch!

India ended the first day’s play against Sri Lanka on 417/2, which turned out to be the highest ever score in a test match day in the country. This broke the record of India itself, when they had earlier batted through the day scoring more than 380 runs, thanks to the triple century from Virender Sehwag against South Africa in 2008.

As if to prove that the Green Park wicket in Kanpur will not be left behind to Motera in Ahmedabad, in dishing out tracks that afford nothing to the bowlers, and conversely everything for the batsmen, more than 400 runs were scored on the first day of the second test match between India and Sri Lanka. That Sri Lanka managed to scalp two wickets was a big enough relief but there was nothing more for the fielding side to cheer for.
