The Australian skipper Ricky Ponting refused to indulge in any mind-games on landing in Mumbai to participate in the 7 match ODI series. Instead he went on to say that a contest between the world’s no. 1 and no. 2 ODI teams promises to be a close contest and that it would be wrong to predict a winner. This was in line with comments made by Steve Waugh earlier when he was in India.

It is not less than a challenge for the No 1 One-day team, Australia to defeat the Indian team on Indian soil, believes skipper Ricky Ponting who arrived with his team in India on Tuesday. But before leaving from Down Under he told the Australian reporters that, “They (India) will be particularly hard to beat in India, they always are. They definitely play a lot better at home than they do when they travel.”

The Indian coach Gary Kirsten has exhorted the Indian cricket team players to have more sex in order to have a better mental preparation before cricket matches. This was a part of a circulated document amongst the players, something that got leaked to the media and has been doing rounds for some time, eliciting even a quiet little snigger amongst many of the players!

Ricky Ponting, Australia’s cricket captain, has announced his retirement from twenty overs format of cricket and has said that he will concentrate on only the other two formats of the game, the ODIs and the test matches. This comes in the wake of the consistently grinding schedule that the sides have to endure in the current day and age, and a growing trend of players choosing one or the other forma over the other. Current vice-captain Michael Clarke will take over the leadership of the T20I Aussie side, whereas Ponting would continue captaining in the test matches and the ODIs. An announcement to that regard will soon be made.

Rediff is reporting that West Indian umpire Steve Bucknor was on Tuesday removed from officiating in the remaining India-Australia Test series and Harbhajan Singh was cleared to play, pending his appeal against a three-Test ban as the ICC yielded to a strong Indian protest. Once again Australia proved that they are # 1 in world cricket. I always get disappointed when final is played single handed. This is their first ever ICC Champions Trophy title.
