India took full toll of the injuries that the Australian squad seem to be suffering from and thrashed them by 99 runs in the second ODI of the seven match series at Nagpur. With this win, the series is now tied at one game apiece and the action will move to Delhi where the two sides will play their third game.
As Australia are packing their bags to leave for India for the seven ODI home series from October 25 to November 11, a lot of action is building up on the Indian front with coaches being sacked and team combinations being changed by the Board of Control for Cricket and the selection committee.
India’s chances in the Champions Trophy have been dealt a big blow as their star batsman Yuvraj Singh has been declared unfit for the tournament and will be returning back home. Yuvraj Singh had been hit by a ball on his finger and could bat, bowl or field for the rest of the session. He was later taken for X-rays and it was found that he had had a fracture. This has ruled him out of cricket for a period of six weeks till the fracture heals, and that means that the vice-captain of the side will not play in this tournament and may be missing for the seven ODI match series against the Australians as well.
Ricky Ponting, Australia’s cricket captain, has announced his retirement from twenty overs format of cricket and has said that he will concentrate on only the other two formats of the game, the ODIs and the test matches. This comes in the wake of the consistently grinding schedule that the sides have to endure in the current day and age, and a growing trend of players choosing one or the other forma over the other. Current vice-captain Michael Clarke will take over the leadership of the T20I Aussie side, whereas Ponting would continue captaining in the test matches and the ODIs. An announcement to that regard will soon be made.
The Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB), which manages the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg has heavily criticized the IPL and its chief, Lalit Modi, for violating many of the norms set by the ground, during the IPL this year.
