The newly appointed coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders side, Dav Whatmore has said that he will look forward to his association with the captain Sourav Ganguly in the third edition of the Indian Premier League. He praised Ganguly’s contribution to Indian cricket and said that he hoped for a fruitful partnership with the former captain of the Indian national side.
In a major development, Dav Whatmore who heads the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s National Cricket Academy in Bangalore has been finalized as the coach for Indian Premier League team, Kolkata Knight riders in the upcoming season three. Though an official announcement has yet to be made, but he has been reportedly allowed an early release by the BCCI to take up the new assignment as KKR coach as soon as possible.
Gautam Gambhir has been ruled out of the tri-series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand after he aggravated a groin injury and had to be flown back to India. This meant that India will go into the series without two of its best ever openers in the ODI format, Virender Sehwag and Gambhir. Earlier, Sehwag had not been selected for this series because of a shoulder injury that he had picked during the IPL.
Virender Sehwag has said that he is currently on his way to recovery from the injury that he had suffered during the IPL, but he wasn’t able to throw or bat yet. Sehwag has been undergoing rehabilitation for some time now, ever since it was discovered that he had a grade I tear in his shoulder and was ruled out of the ICC World T20.
