The third edition of the IPL will start from the 12th of March this year. There will be a grand opening ceremony on the 12th of March before the start of play and the tournament will begin with the first match between Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders. The first game will be played at Dr. DY Patil Stadium.
The Indian Premier league has said that the two new franchises for the 2011 edition of the tournament will be announced before the start of this year’s IPL. Talking about the next edition, he said that there were 12 cities which in contention for winning the rights of the tournament and will be chosen by the end of the month.
After the test matches series and the two T20Is between India and Sri Lanka, the sides will now battle it out for the five ODIs. The first of the five games will be played at Rajkot on Tuesday, and will be followed by games on Friday, Monday, Thursday and Sunday.
Sri Lanka has easily defeated India in the first of the two T20Is played in Nagpur. With this loss, the Indians could not make a winning start to their T20Is on this ground at Jamtha, where they had earlier won their first Test match and first ODI as well. The second game of the series will be played at Mohali on Saturday and the Indians will look to come back into the series with a resounding win before going into the ODIs.
The schedule for the 2011 World Cup was announced during a World Cup event in Mumbai yesterday. According to this schedule, India will play the first ever game of the World Cup at Mirpur against Bangladesh. The tournament begins from the 19th of February and will have the final played on the 2nd of April, a tournament that will run through a week lesser than the previous World Cup.
