Sri Lanka beat India on Sunday at Dambulla to book their place in the final of the tournament. However, the match was marred by some bad umpiring by the duo of Kumar Dharmasena and Asad Rauf, which ensured that the controversies in the India-Sri Lanka games refuses to die down.
India has been jolted once more after they lost the first game to New Zealand at Dambulla. Ishant Sharma, who was injured before the start of the first game that India lost, may not be able to get fully fit in time, and hence, the Indian selectors have named Munaf Patel as a back-up bowler to Ishant.
The Test series is fast approaching the mid-point of the series, and the Indians look to have been beaten in almost all the sessions of the games so far. The first Test match was far too easily won by Sri Lanka, despite 120 overs being lost due to rain, whereas the second Test match looks to be going only one way – away from India.
India may have been outplayed by Sri Lanka in all the departments of the game, but MS Dhoni did not fall short of the excuses. He blamed the loss on to the lack of partnerships that the Indians came up with. Dhoni said that each time a partnership grew in the Indian batting, the Sri Lankan side were able to bowl that magical delivery to get the batsmen out.
India play Sri Lanka in the three Test match series that starts from the 18th of July at Galle. Here are strengths and weaknesses for both the sides for that series:
India has selected Yuvraj Singh in their 16 member squad to tour Sri Lanka for the three Test match series after giving him the axe for the Asia Cup that was played in the same country. What has surprised many of the critics is that without having had any practice during the one month, and without playing any competitive cricket, on what grounds was the dropped player selected in the side.
Krish Srikkanth may have refused to take any questions on any individual selections, much like he had not done so in the previous World T20, but he did say that fitness and fielding were the two main factors that were kept in mind whilst selecting the side. He added that the team had lost a few games thanks to these two factors and hence the focus was on them. Srikkanth also added that MS Dhoni was content with the team he had been given.
