The first ever edition of the IPL awards were announced on Friday in Mumbai and there were many IPL jury awards given away. Sachin Tendulkar was named the best batsman and the best captain of the year whereas Pragyan Ojha won the award for being the best bowler in the tournament.
Sourav Ganguly was fined $40,000 of his match fee for not bowling his overs in time in the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Daredevils. Ganguly is the captain of the Kolkata side and was found two overs short of the overall required target within the stipulated time and hence was charged by the match referee.
The Australian side for the ICC World T20 to be played in West Indies has been announced. The selectors have surprised by including the likes of Michael Hussey and getting the previously injured Brett Lee back into the side.
The Mumbai Indians have begun this edition of the tournament rather well as they notched up two wins in as many games. In their first game, they scored a 200-plus total, and despite a blitzkrieg ton from Yusuf Pathan, emerged winners. The other game saw them crush Delhi after getting to a near 220, winning by 98 runs.
Gautam Gambhir has joined the list of injured players in the Indian Premier League when he did something nasty to his hamstring yesterday while chasing the ball. He missed out most part of yesterday’s game against the Mumbai Indians and will not play the next game for Delhi against the Chennai Super Kings either.
The third edition of the IPL will start from the 12th of March this year. There will be a grand opening ceremony on the 12th of March before the start of play and the tournament will begin with the first match between Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders. The first game will be played at Dr. DY Patil Stadium.
