Sri Lanka lost a crucial player even before their campaign in the ICC World T20 had begun as their top off-spin bowler, Muthiah Muralitharan, has been declared unfit and was ruled out of the ICC World T20 tournament due to a groin injury. Murali had sustained this injury in the game against New Zealand which was also the opening encounter of the tournament. Muralitharan will not rest for two to three weeks, and Murali may miss out of the series against New Zealand to be played in the USA.

The schedule for the 2011 World Cup was announced during a World Cup event in Mumbai yesterday. According to this schedule, India will play the first ever game of the World Cup at Mirpur against Bangladesh. The tournament begins from the 19th of February and will have the final played on the 2nd of April, a tournament that will run through a week lesser than the previous World Cup.

If Ireland cricket board’s chief executive officer, Warren Deutrom, is to be believed then the national side will soon be playing test matches. He has said that the Irish cricket board is planning to apply to the ICC to allow them to play test matches, which will depend on an application of the Full Membership to the ICC.

It is for the second consecutive time that Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named as the ICC ODI Player of the Year. The awards were given away at a glittering awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Thursday night. Apart from this one award, Dhoni was also named captain of both ICC Test and ODI teams.
