It looks like the South African cricket board is on its way to begin everything new. Only one day after the coach of the South African cricket team, Mickey Arthus announced a shock resignation from the side, it was the turn of the selection panel of the South African side to be shown the door by the board. The panel, which is led by Mike Procter, and consists of Craig Matthews, Winky Ximiya and Mustapha Khan, is been said to have been taken aback by this decision!
In fact, talking to a radio in South Africa, the chief, Procter, said that he was least expecting the decision. In fact, he said that he was on his way to making some presentations for the cricket board, advising them the future path ahead and some of the players that could be selected. He also added that he thought that the board the against finding any scapegoats after the England series.
The South African performance in the series against England had not been too good. The side had lost to England in the ODIs, tied the T20s and then went into the last game 0-1 down before restoring the parity with a win at Johannesburg.
Even before that, they had lost to Australia in a test series at home, and then were snuffed out of the ICC World T20 in the semi-finals and the Champions Trophy in the first round. There was also an issue with the confusion regarding the selection of Imran Tahir who was taken into the squad despite not possessing the necessary to do so. Procter had had to apologise for the issue.
Procter said, “It might be a transformation issue, but they didn’t give us any reasons, all they said was that the process needs to be reworked. I have been part of South African cricket for many years, nothing really surprises me anymore”
The cricket board also announced that it will undergo a restructuring in February after a board meeting. Earlier, the coach Arthur had announced that he was going to resign from the office after what he claimed to have been differences of vision between him and the cricket board.
