Modi’s woes seem to get worse by the day. Today, the Bombay High Court decided to reject the plea filed by Modi and his lawyers which had said that the IPL disciplinary committee should be disbanded and the a new unbiased committee should be formed.
The disciplinary committee was to meet and hear Modi’s case alleging the frauds committed by the suspended IPL chief during his tenure at the top. The High Court said that there was no reason to go into the merits of the petition given that BCCI was a society and it was an internal matter of the society.
Modi had pleaded that he would prefer an unbiased and an independent set of members in the disciplinary committee, as the current set of members have a supposed bias against him. The BCCI’s disciplinary committee consists of IPL Chairman Chirayu Amin, Arun Jaitley and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Modi had been accused of major frauds related to broadcast rights amongst other things as well as trying to scuttle international cricket by starting a parallel, IPL-like league.
The High Court bench of of Justices B H Marlapalle and Roshan Dalvi said while they had no say in an internal matter of the BCCI, Modi could appeal against the final findings of the committee and probably also raise the issues surrounding the legality of the case.
Modi had been suspended by the BCCI on April 25, just after the conclusion of the IPL and then sent him show-cause notices. There were three of them in number and Modi needed to reply to them. Modi’s replies were then rejected by the Board secretary and then the same was ratified by all the BCCI members.
This meant that the Modi-case would now be decided by the three-member disciplinary committee consisting of Arun Jaitley, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chirayu Amin.
