Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag has said that he is currently on his way to recovery from the injury that he had suffered during the IPL, but he wasn’t able to throw or bat yet. Sehwag has been undergoing rehabilitation for some time now, ever since it was discovered that he had a grade I tear in his shoulder and was ruled out of the ICC World T20.
He had been a part of the Indian squad for the World T20, but after a controversial week or so in England, had returned back to India and undergone a surgery on the 11th of June and is expected to be out of action for about two to three months. He had earlier been a part of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore to under rehab, and will need to be there again on the 15th of August to assess on the progress.
Sehwag said, “I am hoping to play in the ICC Champions Trophy.” Zaheer Khan has already been ruled out of the Champions Trophy with his shoulder problems. India has had an excellent run in the fifty overs format of the game, having won series against Sri Lanka (twice), England, New Zealand and West Indies in succession, but the injuries may derail India’s campaign for the tournament. The selectors are going to meet soon to announce the squad for the tri-series in Sri Lanka and the Champions Trophy.
In other news, BCCI has decided to hold fitness camps for the Indian cricketers in Mumbai and Delhi. The players have been divided into two batches, and the first camp has started today in Delhi, consisting of players like Ishant Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Praveen Kumar, Suresh Raina and Ashish Nehra. Sehwag has obviously missed the camp due to his injury.
The other players will meet in Mumbai on 11th August for the camp as well.
