India beat Sri Lanka in the second game of the tri-series in Zimbabwe, by a whopping margin of seven wickets and with almost 40 balls to spare. Rohit Sharma was the star of the show, as he slammed his second successive century in ODIs to lead the side to a win over the Sri Lankans.
With this win, the Indians have one win and one loss from their two games, whereas Sri Lanka have played one and lost one. Zimbabwe have on win from their one game.
India won the toss again, but this time, decided to field first. In the previous game, they had batted first and struggled through the first few overs. Sri Lanka started off badly, as they lost a couple of quick wickets at the start of the innings, but were rescued by half centuries by Angelo Mathews and their captain Tillakaratne Dilshan.
Unfortunately, the Sri Lankan problem was that they lost far too many wickets at regular intervals and in the end, collapsed to 242 all out. Apart from the two half centurions and Thisara Perera’s 30, none of the other batsmen did anything of note.
In reply, the Indians lost both their openers, Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik early as well, but the third wicket stand between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma saw the Indians through. With the asking rate less than five through the innings, the Indians made merry on a flat track, as Ajantha Mendis was taken to the cleaners by the batsmen.
Kohli scored an 82 and missed out on a century whereas Rohit Sharma ended with an unbeaten 100. He also won the man of the match award.
India, unfortunately, lost Vinay Kumar to a knee injury before the game and he will now fly back to India. In his place, the replacement is Abhimanyu Mithun.
The next game in the series is between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, and a win for the Lankans will make it a three way tie between the three teams.
