The IPL mess that the BCCI finds itself in will take some time to settle one feels. And to add to the problems that the BCCI has, the Income Tax department has summoned the BCCI secretary, N Srinivasan, to hand over all the relevant documents related to the financial details of the IPL.

All the state associations of the BCCI have voted in favour of referring the Lalit Modi case to the disciplinary committee. That means that the three member disciplinary committee will hear Modi’s case and will have until the end of October to pronounce their judgement.

The Supreme Court of India has sent a notice to N Srinivasan, the owner of the Indian company, India Cements – who is also the BCCI secretary – based on a petition that was filed by AC Muthiah. The petition was regarding N Srinivasan’s ownership of the Chennai Super Kings, despite being the secretary of the BCCI. Muthiah is a former BCCI president.

The Governing Council meeting which had started at 10 am on Monday, ended after two hours at the BCCI office in Mumbai and Chirayu Amin was appointed as the new chairman of the interim Governing Council. This council will consist of the same number of members as earlier, except that the BCCI chief Shashank Manohar has suspended Lalit Modi.

The first ever edition of the IPL awards were announced on Friday in Mumbai and there were many IPL jury awards given away. Sachin Tendulkar was named the best batsman and the best captain of the year whereas Pragyan Ojha won the award for being the best bowler in the tournament.

With the noose beginning to tighten around the neck of Lalit Modi, it looks increasingly likely that the prospects of Modi remaining the chairman and commissioner of the tournament look bleak. The BCCI, already seems to be making all the right noises and there is a good chance that with the federal intelligence agencies having widened the investigations to include the IPL TV rights holders, things can only become more difficult for Modi.

There was a pandemonium in the Parliament over the controversy related to IPL only one day after the Indian minister Shashi Tharoor resigned from his post at the behest of the Indian Prime Minister. The IPL and the BCCI were targeted by the opposition and the finance minister, Pranab Mukherjee had to promise everyone that a high-level financial probe will be conducted in the BCCI.
