The Pakistan Cricket Board has reached a resolution for their dispute with the ICC over the hosting of the World Cup in an out-of-court settlement with cricket’s apex body. Earlier the PCB had initiated legal proceedings against the ICC for not allowing the country to co-host the 2011 edition of the World Cup with India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh after the security situation in the country had deteriorated to the extent that the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked in Lahore.

Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh may say that there shouldn’t be anything drastic done to change the format of the five days cricket matches, but has himself suggested something as radical. In a day and age of reduced spectator-support, and calls to modify the longest format of the game to bring in the spectators, Harbhajan Singh has said that the way forward could be to increase the number of test matches every year!

2009 ICC Champions Trophy

First it was Umar Gul, who had said that he would love to beat India in the Champions Trophy, and now it is the captain himself, who has thrown his hat in the ring, by saying that beating India will be top priority for him in the tournament. Pakistan has yet to beat India in either a World Cup game or an ICC World T20, but had got better of their rivals in the 2004 version of the Champions Trophy.

India’s first ever corporate tournament will be played from the 1st of September to the 8th of September, and will have 12 teams vying for the top prize. The winners of the tournament will be awarded Rs.1 crore, whereas the runners-up will be awarded Rs.50 lakhs. The losing semi-finalists in the tournament will win Rs.25 lakhs each.

The Ashes urn

England has regained the Ashes from Australia by hammering them in the fifth and the final test match at the Oval. England needed to win the game to win the urn, whereas a draw would have sufficed for Australia, but the hosts required only four days to hand over a 197-run drubbing to the Aussies.

 Dermot Reeve

Dermot Reeve has been enlisted as one of the possible candidates to take over the role of the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders from the next season. The list also contains the likes of John Wright, Richard Pybus, Michael Bevan and also India representatives like Lalchand Rajput. Rajput had earlier coached the Indian team when Greg Chappell had resigned from the position, and then had gone on to do the same with the Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians incidentally have had two successive unsuccessful seasons as well.
